A blogger named Washiqur Rahman Babu was stabbed to death by a group of assailants in broad daylight at South Begunbari of Tejgaon Commercial area in Dhaka this morning. The murder took place one month after the killing of popular blogger Avijit Roy.
According to police, Washiqur, 26, a blogger and an employee of Far East Travels Ltd, was stabbed by a group of assailants, numbering at least three, near South Begunbari Jame Mosque around 9:30am, leaving him critically injured, UNB reports.- See More

MUMBAI: A Bhiwandi court in Maharashtra on Monday summoned Congress vice president for his remarks against the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), while addressing an election rally in the state, blaming the outfit for assassination of Mahatma Gandhi.
The Gandhi scion was asked by the court to appear before it on May 08.
Earlier, the Bombay HC had dismissed Rahul's petition for quashing the defamation case filed against him by a saffron outfit functionary. The court had observed that the Amethi MP “prima facie” intended to harm the RSS reputation by allegedly blaming it for Mahatma Gandhi’s assassination, Zee News reports.- See More

Seven sentenced to death for killing Mirpur AL leader
A Dhaka court on Monday sentenced to death seven people, including a listed criminal, and life term imprisonment to one for killing a Swechhchhasebak League leader in capital's Mirpur area in 2006.
Judge ABM Nizamul Haque of the Speedy Trial Tribunal handed down the verdict.The seven convict are--Md Shahdat, a listed criminal, Md Mintu, Md Masudur Rahman alias Totla Masud, Mahmudur Rahman alias Sohel, Liton Hossain alias Lotas, Md Noman Ibn Basad alias Babu and Md Hasan Sarwar alias Ziku. Another one fugitive convict who awarded life term is--Jahanara. The court also fined Tk 20,000 to Jahanara.-See More

Cabinet approves bill to impose 1pc surcharge on mobile phone users - New Age


— New Age file photoThe Cabinet on Monday gave the final approval to the draft ‘Development Surcharge and Levy (Imposition and Collection) Bill 2015′ to impose extra levy based on usage of mobile phones.
The Internal Resource Division placed the draft in the weekly cabinet meeting with prime minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair at the secretariat.
‘The government will realise annually an estimated amount of Tk 140 crore by imposing 1 per cent surcharge on usage of SIM and RUIM of mobile phone users,’ Cabinet Secretary Muhammad Musharraf Hossain Bhuiyan told reporters after the meeting. - See more

The draft, which was made public for taking opinions, said that any entity would have to take prior approval from the central bank to conduct its operation as payment service provider.
The BB proposed that any person will face penalty worth Tk 5 lakh or a three-year rigorous imprisonment on the case-to-case basis due to violation of the act. - See more
